Upcoming races in LA Area

I love races that have a cause or a meaning behind them. There are two races that I have done before and am doing again this year!

Victory for Victims 5k Run/Walk and 10k Run Sun. April 13, 2014
It's in Encino at Lake Balboa Park. Running by the little lake there was really fun.
This helps the Northridge Hospital's Center for Assault Treatment Services.
"Northridge Hospital Medical Center’s CATS program is the only 24 hour, 7 day-a-week program for victims of domestic and sexual assault and child victims of sexual abuse of all ages in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys of Los Angeles County, California."
I think that this an amazing cause. To be able to help someone in anyway just by running a race is great. Last year there were so many companies giving out food and drinks. Read More.

EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Woman Sat. May 10, 2014
This race helps the Entertainment Industry Foundation Revlon's fight agains woman's cancers. (men are welcome). It is located at the LA Memorial Coliseum. I love it over there. For this race there is a ton of traffic and a lot of people, but so fun and for an amazing cause. I walked this race in 2012 with my husband and brother. This was the first race I did and I got a medal, saw Mario Lopez and Halle Berry, and learned a lot. There are booths set up that teach you about cancer and how to check for it. There are a lot of survivors and people walking/running in memory of others. You can feel the passion and love in the crowd. Read More.

Disney's Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Nov. 16, 2014
I am so excited for a new half at Disneyland. I have ran both of the others in CA. I think once is enough for now, but I am so ready for a new one. I think this theme is "super" fun... get it?
Anyways... I actually like super heroes and am okay with them being at Disney. I dressed up for the Tinkerbell 1/2, but didn't for the Disneyland. I think Im going to have to have a costume for this one. It's going to sell out quick like all other Disney races. Disney honestly puts on the best races… and they are super expensive, but worth it to me. Registration opens March 25th Ah! Read More.

There are so many other races happening in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas. I would love to do another half and maybe the color run as well... I know that the color run is in June in LA and there are some others close by. I have to look more into it.

I will post when I sign up and have a team for the two 5ks. I would love for others to join in on these!

Have you ever ran a 5k/10k/half marathon....? Would you?

What I learned at my First Blog Conference

I have several pages of notes from the conference and I wanted to get the most information out that I thought would be most helpful to newer bloggers.
I rewrote the notes and got it down to two pages.

I was trying to figure out the best way for me to get some awesome information out that I learned from my conference and not make it the longest post on earth.

I decided to make it three different posts so it will be more organized.

Here are the three categories:
Finding Your Voice and Staying True to Yourself
Monetization and Ads
Business Side of Blogging

These tips have helped and motivated me so much. I hope these post help you as well!

Tips: Business Side of Blogging

Here are a few tips I learned about the business side of blogging at my first blog conference:

Business Side of Blogging Tips:
  • Know where you fit with your readers (Like if your post/blog is on how to run a half marathon, you know what they have worked up to and where they might be next.)
  • When you know that you can work for your readers to help them and benefit yourself as well.
  • Look at keyword research and find your most popular and least popular to figure out what works and what doesn’t.
  • The message of your blog is what you do for your audience and Branding is how your audience views you. (Are they the same?)
  • Be professional from the start and use spell check.
  • If you are working with a company know what it is all about before you signup/agree to it.
What NOT to do:
  • Don’t produce results (If you say you’re going to do something, do it!)
  • be late
  • be a diva or bully.
Things that makes clients cringe:
  • Foul language
  • history of rants/slams
  • posts without photos
  • lack of engagement
  • blogs that do nothing but pimp
I am not at the level of "business blogger," but it was so fun to learn about that side of blogging. I would recommend new bloggers to go to a conference if they have the opportunity to do so. Even if you are unsure about blogging as a business, if your curious (like I was and still am) you learn so much and meet so many "business bloggers."

I hope that this was helpful to you!

5 Tips for Affiliate Links/ Monetization

Here are 5 awesome Tips for Affiliated Links and Monetization that I learned at my first blog conference:

  1. Don’t make it one big Ad (Remember user/reader experience).
  2. Write your content first, then add affiliate links (This will help keep your blogs personal and flow better).
  3. Have all ads in one spot. Limit to 3-4 at a time.
  4. Find ads or feature products related to the post (This will be most beneficial to you and your readers).
  5. Don’t forget FTC disclosure (Read it for yourself and know the rules and how it fits with your blog).
I haven't started any type of Ads or any way to try to make an earning from blogging. I am still unsure if that's what I want, but I thought that these tips were amazing and that they would help if I go in that direction.
I hope these are helpful to you! Do you have any tips for this topic? Have you featured products/links/Ads on your blog?

Blog Tips: Staying True to You!

Here are some tips that I learned from my first blog conference about fining your voice and being true to yourself.

Finding Your Voice:

  • Don’t let your voice be clouded by the voices of others.
  • There are so many identities put on us by others and their opinion affects us (What would he/she think or want me to say).
  • Embrace yourself and your uniqueness
Stay True to Yourself:
  • When you write you open, as your true self, people connect to you more.
  • It is also very empowering and represents who you are.
  • Keep your integrity (Is this who I am?).
  • Don’t be afraid of saying no.
Finding Your Niche:
  • What are you passionate about? Afraid of picking a niche because you like many things?
  • Once you pick a niche, fulfill cravings for other topics as a guest blogger.
A few more tips for a new blogger:
  • You want your followers to grow naturally and organically.
  • People are so caught up with numbers. Instead, look for a connection.
I loved this part of the conference! I am learning to find my niche and voice within blogging! It is really fun to be able to write about different things and learn what fits you best!
