Follow Your Dreams


Sometimes people feel they are too old or it's too late, they missed their chance for... whatever.

I guess I have been thinking about this because I just got an acceptance letter from a university. I've been accepted as a transfer to other schools where we were suppose to be moving, but then didn't end up moving because of Jon's job. Then I just kind of put it off. I am 24 and am just transferring from a community college, when others do that when they are like 19. I was making myself feel bad about this. I am trying to change my attitude about it and about other things I want to achieve.

I remember a lady in one of my classes said she thought her kids would be embarrassed if they saw her at the college. I told her, that they should be proud of her and so should she. So many people think their lives are over once they have kids, but you can still be a great parent and work towards your own self. It probably takes a lot more work, but in the end it's worth it. You and the little ones will be proud of you.

Also, I think of people that are a bit older and even youngsters that want to start working out or living a healthy life style. Going to workout when you aren't in shape or over weight, you can feel embarrassed and that thinking can lead you to give up or never start. Really though anyone that is working out or at the gym is mostly paying attention to themselves. Also if they are thinking or saying something mean they are the insecure ones. Being healthy and getting fit is one of the most amazing feelings and everyone should be encouraging. If you just let go of that feeling and try it, you will see it's not that bad and most of the people are helpful and motivating.

Sometimes things don't workout in a "cookie cutter" way like we want them to, but that doesn't mean you can achieve your dreams and goals. It could be something small you've always wanted to do like take a dance class or something huge like a career change.

I am nervous and excited to begin going towards a goal of mine.

Getting Healthy


I have been running for a year and trying to eat better, but I want to take it to the next level and work really hard to be healthier, happier, and stronger!
I want to post health/fitness updates, tips, and anything else in that category every Friday.

I have been eating really clean. Trying to have 5 small meals a day and lots of water. I try to have a carb and protein with every meal as wells as veggies.

Update on my January Health and Fitness Goals:

_Follow a workout schedule.

The first week I sucked at following a schedule. Finally I wrote it down and that helped a lot. Im still behind with my running, but I have been focusing on strength training.

 Drink more water. 

I am doing really well at drinking more water. It helped to have water bottles ready for me and next to me at all times. I only drink water and green tea, but I haven't had soda (except for sips of my husbands drink or root beer floats very rarely) in like 2 or 3 years.

_Run 2.5 miles without walking break.
I am having difficulty with this and will continue to try for this and my ultimate goal for my next race to run a 5k with no walking breaks. I think that my eating, water in take, and strength training is helping the way I feel during my runs though. 

 Strength train once a week.

I try to do pushups, squats, planks, sit-ups every other day. Then I used my weights one to two times a week this month. I had to force myself to do this and still don't enjoy it completely.

 Eat less sweets. 

This was so hard and I did eat sweets, but way less than I could have. I got dark chocolate covered almonds and have a few when Im craving sweets. I have been eating better overall and am really happy about that. Eating clean is way harder than working out for me. Maybe one day a clean only diet will be my goal, but for now it's just eating better than I have. I am craving less of the unhealthy foods as the month goes on. It is getting easier and I am loving the way its making me feel.

Things that have helped me this month:
  • Writing down my goals and my workout schedule. 
  • Having water with me all the time.
  • No unhealthy foods at home. 
  • Give yourself a little treat sometimes (dark chocolate covered almonds).
  • Good music to workout to.
  • Cut up fruits and veggies so they are ready to eat when hungry for a quick snack. 
I am planning on starting the 100 in 100 next week and updating once a week. Have you heard of give it 100? I learned about it from Adri's Thoghts, people pick something to do everyday for 100 days. There is everything from juggling to exercising everyday. What would you do everyday for 100 days?

Quinoa Black Bean and Corn Dip/ Burritos



Today was the first time I cooked quinoa. I have had it a few times, but never cooked it. I know there are many health benefits to quinoa, like it is the only plant food that contains all essential amino acids, vitamins, and is gluten free, so I wanted to give it a try.

Today I made a Quinoa Salad. It's pretty much Quinoa with salsa mixed into it.





Ingredients:
2 Cups Quinoa
2 Tomatos
5 cloves of garlic
1/2 of a large onion
1/2 of a green pepper
1 jalapeƱo
1 bunch of cilantro
1 can of corn (drained)
1 can of black beans (rinsed)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Table spoon ground cumin
Salt to taste
3 limes

Directions:
Rinse off and cook quinoa. (2 cups quinoa/ 3 cups water)
Dice up all Veggies, Drain corn, Drain and rinse black beans and put in a big bowl.
After quinoa is cooked mix into bowl with the other ingredients.
Put in olive oil, cumin, salt, and lime to taste.
Mix all together well.

This is a huge portion. I made it for Jon and I, and my family. 6 people and there are still left overs.

We ate it with tortilla chips and I made burritos with steak and chicken I also added sour cream and salsa.

You can put in any ingredient you like! I actually think one more tomato would have made it better and I don't even really like tomatoes. (I got this recipe from the Shaytards on Youtube a long time ago and have no idea what video it was.)

My Manly Man


This link-up went live Tuesday and I love it but didn't really know what to write... Men say a lot of sh*t. But today my husband finally gave me something to contribute to this awesome link-up.

I have been trying to eat healthy and I guess he's not really into it. We were getting ready to go out to eat and I picked a restaurant that has really healthy options and not very "manly" I guess because he said, " I just want to eat something that will kill me, like a hamburger." I was dying. Umm. Ok you do that sir.

Anyways. I thought it was really funny.

Blog Identity Crisis


I knew when I started blogging that I didn't want to be tied down to one topic or category of the blog world. I like too many things to label myself one thing. It is difficult though because I want my blog to flow and have some sort of common theme for my posts. Right now I don't really have a plan or structure. It's just post what I feel like when I feel like. I wanted this month to be laid back for me because I was feeling unmotivated because of December's vloging everyday.

I have been kind of disappointed in how my blog is, and I want to turn that around. I think starting next month I will have a theme each month to tie all my posts for that month together. I want my blog to be uplifting and positive but also truthful and down-to-earth... and maybe a little funny if I try.

Have you ever felt like you were having a problem like this with your blog? How did you over come it? Any advice?

Best TV Series on Netflix


I rarely watch television on the actual TV, but I watch quite on Netflix. I though it would be fun to share my five favorite TV series that are on Netflix!

American Horror Story Season 1 & 2 are on Netflix. Each season is a different story with some of the same actors. Season 1 was about a family that moved into a house where strange and paranormal things happen. The second season is about a psychiatric hospital where not only the patients are crazy. I liked season 1 better. It was harder for me to get into season 2. 

Prison Break The entire series is on Netflix. This series is about a guy that is accused of murder. His brother tries to prove his innocents and when he can't he tries to help him escape from prison. 

Orange is the New Black is a Netflix original and absolutely amazing! It's about a "privileged New Yorker, who ends up in a woman's prison when a past crime catches up to her."

Breaking Bad I was late to the party with this series, but it lived up to its hype. This is probably the only television series where you like and root for the "bad guy."

Desperate Housewives This series is probably my favorite. I love it and all of it's drama. "Even as the ladies of Wisteria Lane harbor dark secrets, they lend one another support when the going gets tough."

10 Favorite Things About the New Year

My Ten Favorite Things About the New Year:

Celebrating the New Year is a favorite. I love New Year's Eve, even though I haven't gone out to celebrate it too many times. It's fun and exciting at home or out with a bunch of people.

A fresh start. Although I don't really have New Years resolutions (I always have goals), I love others outlook on a new year. I think it's nice to be able to forgive yourself of things you haven't accomplished and make a better plan to get it done in the new year.

Motivation. A new year brings motivation to me and others around me. My dad told me he wants to run a 5k with me this year. We picked a date and everything. Im super excited and proud.

My sisters birthday. She's turning 21 this year. Last year my brother turned 21. We were in Vegas for 4th of July and it was a blast. I can't wait for my sister's birthday. She's going to have so much fun.

A new calendar/agenda. Thats probably weird, but I love picking out office supplies and being organized and a shiny new one makes me happy.

Disneyland trips. We bought tickets in December that are good for 3 days. The whole end of December was blocked out, so Im looking forward to going again!

New races to try. I want to participate in many races this year that I didn't have the chance to last year. There are so many fun and amazing races here in Southern California!

My 2014 bucket list. I wrote down a few things that would be fun to try in the New Year, like a cooking class, and I am looking forward to doing them!

Britney Spears in Vegas. I love her. Hopefully when we are out there we can go to her show. Haha

Organizing/Decorating my apartment. I have been waiting until after the holidays to start decorating my apartment and I can't wait for it to look like home.
